Our Story

wHoo Cares is a community interest company created to support individuals on the Hoo Peninsula. We know that everyone is unique and sometimes we all need a bit of extra help which will enable us to manage the challenges we face.

The formation of wHoo Cares began in early 2015 and was developed by a group of volunteers (most of whom are still serving on our Board of Directors) and a team from DERiC (Developing and Empowering Resources in Communities) along with the support of Medway Council.

Our Aims

wHoo Cares aims to provide support for anybody on the Hoo Peninsula or within the ME3 postcode.
Where we are not able to be there for you personally, we will provide you with information of other services and organisations that can assist you and help you on your ‘journey’.

Within our organisation, we are always looking at new ways to support people, alongside trying to bring services that do not yet exist on the Peninsula to the Peninsula.

It is also our aim to speak out for those who can’t on the Peninsula and help their message be heard.

Our Impact on the Peninsula

Our first 5 years as an organisation were busy ones, so much so that we produced a magazine to highlight the support we provided. Click on the image to read it!

The magazine has stories told in the words of those we have helped, and those who volunteer with us.

There is a limited number of hard copies available. If you would like one please call the team.

Our Impact

In 2023, wHoo Cares commissioned a Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis of its work with residents of the Hoo Peninsula. The analysis drew on qualitative and quantitative research with staff, volunteers and partners.

These outcomes were found to all contribute to improved quality of life for those receiving wHoo Cares support and wHoo Cares volunteers. This has an associated benefit for public services as older people with a better quality of life rely on services less, freeing resources for use elsewhere
